My Story
Before my daughter was born in 2017, I did not even know what autism was. When she was around two years old, our lives changed forever. She was diagnosed with Level 3 Autism, ADHD, and Sensory Processing challenges. She was non-verbal until four and a half years old.
Those early years were incredibly difficult. My daughter would vomit six to seven times a day, sometimes even after drinking only milk. As a new mother living in Australia, far away from support systems, I felt completely alone. I was a stay-at-home mum trying to navigate a world I did not understand.
After her diagnosis, I went through severe depression. While I was grieving and searching for answers, I often felt judged instead of supported. Family, relatives, friends, and even people close to me struggled to understand what I was going through. I desperately needed a hug, encouragement, and someone to tell me I was going to be okay, but instead I often felt isolated.
Many days, it was just me and my daughter. I had nobody to talk to, nowhere to go, and no roadmap for what came next. While there were services available for my daughter, there was very little support for me as a parent. Months passed, and I sank deeper into loneliness, exhaustion, and despair. I gained weight, lost confidence, lost interest in the things I once loved, and at my lowest point, I even experienced suicidal thoughts.
Then one day, I made a decision that changed everything.
I told myself:
She is my child, and if anyone can help her, I can.
I started spending every possible moment working with her. I played with her, encouraged eye contact, practiced words, created opportunities for connection, and celebrated every small success. Slowly, she began responding. As she grew stronger, I grew stronger too.
Mother of a 30-year-old autistic son
Later, I met a child psychologist who was also the mother of a 30-year-old autistic son. She watched how I interacted with my daughter and told me something I will never forget. She said I was naturally using many of the same strategies that professionals use. She encouraged me to study autism and develop my knowledge further.
That psychologist became my mentor. Her support and belief in me changed my life forever.
She said I was naturally using many of the same strategies that professionals use.
While caring for my daughter and managing my household, I studied late into the night after she had gone to sleep. What started as a mother's determination became a calling.
Walking this path every single day with unconditional love and fierce dedication.
Guiding families with evidence-based strategies and hard-earned lived experience.
Championing the mental health and wellbeing of every parent on this journey.
My daughter is now 9 years old. She lives a happy and increasingly independent life. She attends a mainstream school, goes to tuition, enjoys music classes, loves singing and dancing, and can read and write. Watching her grow has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.
Thriving in a mainstream learning environment every day.
Singing, dancing and expressing herself with confidence and joy.
The little girl once non-verbal now writes her own story.
Building life skills and becoming more confident every year.
